Hence, maybe I should go get a long ethernet cable so I can connect directly to the router. Still abit shaken, should I proceed to change the adapter first, or change the router first(to enable WEP) and then insert the key in the adapter properties and change adapter mode to WEP as Mandatory? I can see where changing the router first might lock both of my connections and then I wouldn't be able to get back to the router to disable WEP. What did I also noticed that the default values for the WEP keys ( I can have 4) have 25 zeroes, but I thought 128 bit mode required 26 digit numbers! BTW, does the key I enter have to be a hex value? So I changed the adapter properties to use channel 6 and got connected.

I re-started the PC and the connection came back although the channel specified was 3 and my other PC shows it was using channel 6. But since I'm back online it was not disasterous. It shakes my confidence(which was already low to nervous).
But, when I changed the adapter to WEP Mode Optional, inserted the key, closed the Properties, I lost my adapter connection immediately. I decided to change the adapter settings first, thinking if I changed its WEP Mode from Mandatory to Optional I could put the WEP key in(as a 26 digit number) in WEP Key #1, then login to the router and change WEP MOde from disable to enable, insert the same key value, and then logoff and reconnect.
